Tourist
Visit Indonesia. Far East.
Indonesia is a complex country of 13.000 islands. It is between South East Asia and Australia, and the indonesians call their own
country, which is a republic, for ``Our country, and water".
Two million square kilometers of land, and
additionally there is tree million square kilometers
of territorial water. Therefore ``our country, and water". It is the
largest island-nation of the world, with 230 million inhabitants. Each
island has its own dress and dialect. Only 1000 islands have people.
West Java has rainforrests, while at other
islands you will find snow covered mountain tops ... even right there by
the equator line.
On Timor you will find dry savannahs.
Indonesia have attracted many people and
immigrants. Chineese, portugeese,
dutch, etc., and these influences have made Indonesia what it is today. Very rich.
Sumatra is the fourth largest world. It attracts biologists and nature
lovers. The jungle is wild, with exotic plants and animals. The largest
plant of the world grows here. Of animals you will find orangu tanges, elephants,
and sumatran tigers.
The people live relatively free from western influences.
The Toraja people
lives on the island of Sulawesi.
The island has the famous boat-shaped houses build by the Torajans. The funeral/burrial
ceremonies of their dead is also quite interesting, as they shape a
statue of the dead, and placed on balconies up on the mountain sides
overlooking the land. Their eyes are always blueish,
starring down. The wood carved statues are almost man size.
Java has
temple complexes, which derive to the arrival of the indians
500 b.c. They established a sophisticated
civilisation with hinduism and buddhism. Today 90% are muslims,
but the old traditional dances are still performed.
Jakarta is called ``the mother city" of Indonesia. It is a 10 million people metropolis, however, without an actual
city center. The colonial style from the Dutch
and Portuguese can still be seen in the streets.
Most important turist sights of Jakarta is the
old harbour by Tanjung Priok,
the chinese town, and the Plane of Peace, Merdeka
Square which
is a marble obelisk commemorating Indonesia's independence from the Netherlands in 1945.
Jakarta has two air-ports, Kemayoran Airport, and the known Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport.
Lombok has pottery production. Mountains of volcanic origin rise to
3,726 meters on Mount Rinjani. Plants and animals are closer related to Australia than to Balinese. Beaches are excellent for swim.
Indonesia is waiting to welcome you.
