Tourist Visit Bali
Bali is something special in a touristic sense.
It is a small island, 145 km long and 80 km wide (90 miles and 50 miles).
The historically the population are refugees of hindue elite, who were driven away from Indonesia.
Bali is a
miniature of Indonesia, having vulcanos, forrests,
beautiful beaches, temples, mountains, and much more.
To the south you will have agriculture with rice, coco, coffee, tropical
fruits.
To the north of the island you will have mountains and rivers. Threethousand meters above the sealevel
you will find the lake of the vulcano Gunung Agung (Mount Agung, Piek van Bali). The lake streaches 8 km (5 miles), and is 90 meters deep at certain places.
The population is 3 1/2 million. The inhabitants are quite
different from i.e. the Javanese neighbours. The Balinese are colourful,
outgoing, and less reserved.
Music and dance plays an important role. Also artistic wood carving, and arts.
The tourist wood carving has a less quality compared to the quality of
the carving you will find in the high-lands. Flowers and animal carving
are popular.
Religious processions and offering are brought every day. As a
tourist you should enjoy the offerings to the Gods every day.
The Batu crater, lake Batu. Shape of a half-moon.
A park is to the south of the lake.
Girls dance a dance portraying angles coming to earth from the
all-mighty above.
The barong dance portrays a fight and struggle between good and evil.
Dancers often use masks. The masks worn in dancing is a
a local craft too, and it takes about a 40
hours week to create a mask. It cost around 45 Euro.
Mask wearing is important too. You should act the mask you are
wearing.
Cock-fighting is normal life on Bali. It is forbidden in Europe, but here you will find the
cocks cutting each other to pieces. It has religious overtones. It keeps
evil influences away, and is a tradition. Sharp blades are tightened to
the legs of the cocks, and they fight to the deaths.
There are many temples and offering places. You must wear a sharong entering these places, but they can most
likely be borrowed by the entrance.
Many shop keepers also make offerings on the pavement in front of their
shops. Be sure not to step on these offerings, as this is not very
polite. Watch your steps.
Kuta Beach. There are many beaches with good surfer
waves. Many Australians come here to surf. Kuta
is close to the capital city, Denpasar.
Singaraja Sanuer is
for families, while Kuta is for active
youngsters. The sea is not favourable for swimming.
Enjoy massages, and the friendlyness of the Balaneese.
Bali makes
you wish to come back to Indonesia and relax ... rather surf.
